Chapter Advisors

The Fraternity & Sorority Life office is helping chapters get faculty advisers from Cal Poly! If your chapter does not have an adviser we would love to match you with one depending on your interests and what faculty on campus are willing to do!

Each chapter is required adviser to help build the relationship of Greek Life and Cal Poly.

Advisers could help with academic resources: meeting with your scholarship chair, helping individual members with classes, and advise on member’s career opportunities.

They could also attend as many or no chapter meetings  you’d want and attend executive meetings if you wanted as well (yearly, quarterly, weekly, never).

They could also be a resource for philanthropy events as well.

We want to help you find your ideal advisers!

Standards of Excellence

This year the Fraternity & Sorority life office will be collecting information for Standards of Excellence from each chapter! The Standards of Excellence has five different categories: Academic Achievement, Leadership Development, Chapter Management, Campus and Community Relations, and Community Service. Within each category a chapter can rank from doing the minimum to bronze, silver and gold. This is an effort to show off the great amount of work that each chapter does within IFC, PHA and USFC. These awards should show off their hard work and how prestigious their chapter is.

Chapter Presidents have been added to a Google Doc to add submissions of each requirement for their chapter and a review committee will be judging the submissions and choose rankings by the end of Spring Quarter, annually.

While we realize some requirements are vague, here: , you can see exactly what we are looking for under each category and ranking as well as potential activities that can be done to count for them.

Be sure to contact us if you have any questions.

Greek Summit in Review

Greek Summit 2016 was a great success for Cal Poly Greek council members and chapter presidents, we were so lucky we had Camp Ocean Pines to host us. Council members and chapter presidents came together to assess their goals, learn more about their responsibilities and bond. The weekend included a bone fire activity and discussions to learn about things like Standards of Excellence, Greek Housing and StrengthsQuest, all in an effort to improve Greek life at Cal Poly and reach the goals of each respective council. We believe it has opened up the dialogue for essential discussions in getting Greek life to reaching it’s potential.

New Dean of Students-Kathleen McMahon

The Fraternity & Sorority Life Office would like to congratulate and welcome Kathleen McMahon as Cal Poly’s new Dean of Students.

Although we will miss our current Dean of Students, Jean DeCosta, who announced her retirement earlier this year, we are confident in McMahon’s abilities, experience and enthusiasm to join the Cal Poly community and be an asset to our team.

Twenty percent of Cal Poly’s population is affiliated with Greek Life and we look forward to working with McMahon to support and improve the student life for them, as well as the Center for Leadership and Service, the Cross Cultural Centers, the Center for Service In Action, student clubs, Safer, Student Rights and Responsibilities, and club sports.

The entire Dean of Students is looking forward to getting to know her and having her around the office beginning this coming February.
